What is Prolozone Therapy?
A regenerative therapy that combines Prolotherapy with Ozone. Prolozone Therapy is a non-surgical treatment approach pioneered by Dr. Frank Shallenberger, MD, that promotes healing of ligaments, tendons, and joints. “Proli” is a Latin term meaning to proliferate, rebuild, and regenerate.
What causes joint pain?
Ligaments and tendons are the “rubber-band like structures” that hold your bones, joints, and spinal discs together as functional units. When ligaments, tendons, and joints are injured from repetitive stress injuries (postural, ergonomics), accidents or surgery, they become painful, weak, and unstable. The result is a 'hypermobility', which means that there is excess motion within a joint and the required stability is decreased. Weakness and hypermobility of ligaments and tendons leaves a joint without sufficient support and stabilization. This leads to poor structural alignment, decreased functional ability, and excess wear and tear (tissue degeneration), resulting in spine and joint pain.
How does Prolozone Therapy work?
Prolozone Therapy utilizes anesthetics, anti-inflammatory agents, vitamins, minerals, homeopathics, and others similar to those used in Prolotherapy. These solutions along with the power of ozone, the most oxygen-rich nutrient in the universe, are introduced into ligaments, tendons, and joints to stimulate a healing response to decrease pain, improve circulation, and promote tissue growth and regeneration.
Prolozone Therapy stimulates fibroblasts and chondroblasts, cells that make collagen and cartilage, which the body uses to repair injured ligaments, tendons, and joints. This leads to strengthening and tightening of injured tissues to ultimately stabilize joints, improve biomechanical function, and relieve pain.

What can I expect?
The response to Prolozone Therapy depends of the level of injury and your body's healing potential. Many patients experience an immediate decrease in pain, regeneration of ligaments, tendons, and cartilages, and significant overall improvement. Although the number of treatment varies from person to person, oftentimes 1-3 treatments will promote substantial healing while others require 4-6. Each treatment is additive and the process is repeated every few weeks to months until maximum improvement is attained.
Are there side effects?
No. Aside from occasional soreness, there have been no reports of any side effects from Prolozone Therapy.
